- Security watch: Next.js has announced an out-of-band security update for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, covering two Critical and one High severity vulnerabilities in upstream dependencies. Read the official announcement.
- Next.js 16.4.0 is the current stable release (published October 6) and Node.js v26.11.1 landed October 7.
- Astro 7.3.8, SvelteKit 3.0.1 and Nuxt 4.6.1 all shipped within the last week.

- Express 5.3.0, MUI 9.5.0, Motion 14.1.0 and BullMQ 6.3.12 all published on October 9.
Scope note: this audit is built from the npm registry, nodejs.org distribution index and the Next.js blog. GitHub release pages and non-npm sources (Docker Hub, PyPI, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka and others) were not reachable in this run, so those categories are not covered today and no claims are made about them.
Security: Next.js October 14 Update
Vercel's Next.js team says the update addresses three upstream-dependency vulnerabilities (two Critical, one High), two of which were postponed from the September security release due to upstream coordination. Full advisories, affected versions and upgrade instructions will be published with the release. Until then, pin your current version and be ready to upgrade.
# Check what you run today
npm ls next
# After the Oct 14 release, upgrade to the patched line
npm install next@latestMeta-Frameworks
Next.js and React
Next.js 16.4.0 is stable, with 16.5.0 canary builds in progress. React is at 19.3.0 (September 9).
Astro, SvelteKit, Svelte, Nuxt, Vue
Astro 7.3.8 (Oct 8), Svelte 5.57.2 and SvelteKit 3.0.1 (Oct 6), Nuxt 4.6.1 (Oct 9) and Vue 3.5.43 (Sep 17) are the current latest tags. Because SvelteKit is on a 3.x major, check its changelog before bumping from 2.x.
Backend and Runtimes
Node.js v26.11.1 and v26.11.0 were both cut on October 7 (see the distribution index); neither is flagged as a security release or LTS. Other latest npm tags: NestJS core 12.1.2, Fastify 5.12.5, Express 5.3.0, Hono 4.13.13 and Elysia 1.4.30.
UI, Styling and Motion
MUI 9.5.0 and Motion 14.1.0 published October 9. Tailwind CSS 4.3.3 remains the latest since July 16.
Data, ORMs and BaaS
Prisma tagged 8.0.0-rc.22 on October 8, so a major is close; test on a branch rather than production. Drizzle ORM 0.45.4 shipped the same day, MongoDB Node driver 7.7.0 on September 28, supabase-js 2.117.3 on October 7 and Firebase 13.0.0 on October 7, a major bump to review before upgrading.
# Try the Prisma release candidate in isolation
npm install prisma@rc @prisma/client@rc --save-devIdentity and Queues
Better Auth 1.7.7 (Sep 30), Clerk Next.js SDK 7.9.14 and Auth0 Node SDK 7.4.0 (Oct 9), and BullMQ 6.3.12 (Oct 9) are current.
