Claude Code 2.1.304, Codex 0.163 and Copilot Autofix GA: October 20 Roundup

Since last week's worktree roundup, the big AI coding tools have kept shipping. Claude Code moved from 2.1.296 to 2.1.304, Codex shipped 0.163.0, OpenCode ended session sharing, and GitHub made agentic autofix for code scanning generally available. Here is what changed, with links to each primary source.

Claude Code 2.1.302 to 2.1.304: auto mode and safer deletes

The Claude Code changelog shows 2.1.302 added CLAUDE_CODE_AUTO_MODE_MODEL to pick the model the client-side auto mode classifier uses, plus an "Idle compaction" toggle in /config. Fork subagents are now on by default in claude -p, the Agent SDK, the desktop app and VS Code; set CLAUDE_CODE_FORK_SUBAGENT=0 to turn them off. Prompt and agent hooks now run at most 12 of one event at a time.

Version 2.1.304 adds /auto-mode-setup, a guided setup that reads your project and recent sessions to teach auto mode about your environment, and it now works on Bedrock, Vertex, Foundry and telemetry-disabled sessions. Pro and Max users get a warning when resuming an inactive conversation would use a noticeable share of the 5-hour usage limit.

Notable fixes: rm -r on a mounted drive such as /Volumes, /media or WSL's /mnt/c now gets the same safety prompt as deleting /Applications, and claude --worktree no longer removes a worktree and branch without asking when HEAD is detached, which could lose commits. Subagent responsiveness with many agents running at once also improved. The 2.1.302 notes also warn that standalone Claude Design closes on December 14, 2026.

OpenAI Codex 0.163.0: searchable config and a daemon command

The latest stable release on the Codex releases page is 0.163.0 (October 15). It adds a searchable /config view, a configurable leader key in /keymap (default Ctrl+X) and a /daemon command to restart the background server. Follow-up messages sent mid-response can now steer Codex immediately, and independent read-only tools run in parallel.

Resumed threads restore permissions and network approvals, Windows and WSL paste handling improved, and codex exec no longer repeats unchanged file diffs. Alpha builds of 0.164.0 were still being cut as of October 19.

OpenCode 1.19: sharing retired, 2.x upgrade is opt-in

Per the OpenCode releases, v1.19.1 (October 15) discontinued session sharing: existing share links and sharing commands stop working and importing from share URLs is unsupported. Export anything you still need. v1.19.2 (October 16) keeps update checks on the 1.x line, so moving to 2.x requires /update or opencode upgrade --major. v1.19.3 lets you set reasoning options in model config to generate reasoning variants.

GitHub Copilot: autofix GA, Gemini 4 Argon and a model policy API

The biggest Copilot item is agentic autofix for code scanning alerts, now generally available for GitHub Code Security and Advanced Security customers on GitHub Enterprise Cloud. Copilot explores relevant files, proposes a fix, reruns CodeQL to confirm the alert closes, then opens a draft pull request. Alerts on the default branch can be assigned one at a time, in batches of up to 25, or through the REST API. It needs an enterprise policy, a Copilot billing method, and consumes AI Credits and Actions minutes.

Gemini 4 Argon is gradually rolling out in Copilot for Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise across VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, Copilot CLI and the coding agent, billed at provider list pricing. Admins also get a model policy REST API covering enterprise, enterprise teams, enterprise apps and organization levels. Finally, GitHub announced an upcoming deprecation of selected models in mid-November, so check which models your workflows pin.

What to do this week

  • Claude Code users: update to 2.1.304 and run /auto-mode-setup before relying on auto mode.
  • OpenCode users: export any shared sessions you need, then decide deliberately whether to move to 2.x.
  • Copilot admins: review the model policy API and the November deprecation list; pilot autofix on a low-risk repository first.
  • Codex users: upgrade to 0.163.0 and try mid-response steering on a long task.
